Matley, Pignataro and Hommes Win WVB Weekly Honors

The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) has announced its Women's Volleyball Player of the Week Awards, presented by Tarkett Sports Construction, earlier today. Student-athletes are nominated by their host institutions' sports information department and selected via a vote by conference SID's.

This week, WHAC SIDs have chosen Lawrence Tech's Nya Matley as the Attacker of the Week, Cornerstone's Alison Pignataro as the Setter of the Week and Aquinas' Bella Hommes as the Defender of the Week. 

Matley helped the Blue Devils to a 2-0 week with wins over Madonna and UM-Dearborn. The senior totaled 26 kills, averaging 3.17 per set and hitting at a .478 clip. She also added seven blocks and three service aces. 

Pignataro helped Cornerstone to a sweep of Siena Heights and earns Setter of the Week honors in the process. The junior set a career-high 38 assists, averaging 12.67 per set. She also added four digs, a block and two kills. 

Hommes wins her fifth Defensive Player of the Week honor, posting 21 digs (seven per set), four service aces and five assists.
