Williams and Hope Earn Weekly Outdoor Honors

The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) has announced its latest Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week awards, presented by Tarkett Sports Construction. Student-athletes are nominated by their host institutions and selected via a vote by the conference's sports information directors.

This week's accolades highlight a record-breaking hurdle performance from a Detroit native and an elite showing in the throws that shattered a school record by double digits.

Track Athlete of the Week

Latrice Williams, Lawrence Tech

(So., Detroit, Mich.)

Sophomore Latrice Williams earns Track Athlete of the Week honors following a historic performance at the Oakland Elaine Leigh Invitational. Competing in a deep field of 25 athletes, Williams captured first place in the 100m Hurdles with a blistering time of 13.86 seconds. This mark not only set a new Lawrence Tech school record but also catapulted her to a No. 4 national ranking in the NAIA, establishing her as one of the premier hurdlers in the country.

Field Athlete of the Week

Maelie Hope, Aquinas

(Jr., Twin Lake, Mich.)

Junior Maelie Hope takes home Field Athlete of the Week honors after a dominant double-gold performance at the Calvin Knight Invite. Hope was the class of the field in both the Hammer Throw and Discus, securing first-place finishes in both events. Her performance in the Hammer was particularly historic, as her mark of 56.11m shattered the previous school record by an incredible ten feet. Additionally, she claimed the top spot in the Discus with a toss of 43.61m, hitting the NAIA "A" Standard in both disciplines.
