UNOH's Purmonen, Lourdes' Arendsen Earn Player of the Week Awards
The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) has announced its Women's Soccer Player of the Week Awards, presented by Tarkett Sports Construction, earlier today. Student-athletes are nominated by their host institutions' sports information department and selected via a vote by conference SID's.
This week, WHAC SIDs have chosen UNOH's Vivian Purmonen as the Offensive Player of the Week and Lourdes' Samarah Arendsen as the Defensive Player of the Week
Purmonen led the Racers to a pair of WHAC wins last week, scoring a hat trick in an 18-0 win over Defiance and adding the game-winner in a 2-0 victory over Cornerstone. She also added a pair of assists to total 10 points on the week.
Arendsen earns Defensive Player of the Week for a pair of 1-0 shutout wins over Cleary and Aquinas last week to push the Gray Wolves in to sole posession of first place in the WHAC table. The junior from Zeeland, Mich. made three saves in 180 minutes of action. Through eight matches she has posted a 0.38 goals against average, six shutouts, and 25 total saves.
