Women's Soccer Honors Announced

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Cornerstone University (Mich.) (11-6-1) and Siena Heights University (Mich.) (11-6-3) shared the 2010 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) women's soccer regular-season title with 4-1-1 records. The top two teams will face off in the championship game of the conference tournament for the right to advance to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Women's Soccer National Championship tournament.

Fittingly, players from each team were named tops in the conference. Ashleigh Lund of Cornerstone was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Year in her senior campaign. Lund scored three goals and had three assists and was instrumental in helping Cornerstone's defense run smoothly. Siena Heights' goalkeeper Haley Mancini was honored as the Goalkeeper of the Year after recording 98 saves in 20 games. The senior won 11 games and lost six and is ranked #18 in the nation for Goals Against with 0.650.

Cornerstone head coach Randy Strawser earned Coach of the Year honors for leading the Golden Eagles to the conference title after finishing fifth last year. Madonna University (Mich.) head coach Jeff Hodgson was named Coach of Character for best representing the five core values of the NAIA's Champions of Character initiative - Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship and Servant Leadership.

In addition to All-Conference honors, two other honors were announced - the Champions of Character Team and All-Academic (for juniors and above in academic standing and 3.25 GPA).
