Walter and Hopper Named Softball Weekly Honorees

The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) has announced its latest Softball Player of the Week awards, presented by Tarkett Sports Construction. These honors are nominated by the league's host institutions and selected via a vote by the conference's sports information directors.

This week's awards feature an incredible offensive display from Indiana Tech and a dominant, low-earned-run week from a standout freshman at Defiance.

Softball Player of the Week

Carlye Walter, Indiana Tech

(Jr., RHP/3B - Lowell, Ind.)

Carlye Walter was nearly impossible to keep off the base paths this week, reaching base 16 times in 20 plate appearances. The junior posted an elite stat line, hitting .714 with an .800 on-base percentage and a 1.357 slugging percentage. Of her 10 hits, seven went for extra bases, including six doubles and a home run.

Walter drove in five runs and scored eight times to lead the Warriors to a 5-1 week. She also contributed on the rubber, tossing six innings in a save effort where she allowed just one run and struck out four.

Softball Pitcher of the Week

Madelyn Hopper, Defiance

Freshman Madelyn Hopper earns Pitcher of the Week honors after delivering two stellar complete-game victories for the Yellow Jackets. Hopper threw 13.0 total innings, allowing only two earned runs for a microscopic 1.08 ERA on the week.

Her performance was highlighted by an eight-inning masterpiece against Lourdes, where she allowed zero earned runs and just four hits. She followed that up by holding Rochester Christian to only two hits over five innings while matching a season-high with seven strikeouts. Hopper was also a dual-threat, helping her own cause by going 7-for-10 at the plate.
