Marian Claims First-Ever WHAC Wrestling Tournament Title
FORT WAYNE, IND. - (Complete Results) For the first time in program history the Marian University Knights have claimed the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) tournament title. Marian snapped Indiana Tech's five-year winning streak at the event and did so in impressive fashion with five individual champions. The Knights tallied 181.5 total team points to edge Indiana Tech who totaled 176.5. It came down to the finals as a number of head-to-head matchups between Indiana Tech and Marian were on tap.
Marian's individual confernece champions included: Anthony Hughes (125 pounds), Logan Wagner (141 pounds), Christian Arberrry (157 pounds), Anthony Rinehart (174 pounds), and Noah Hollendonner (184 pounds).
Nick Alayan of Rochester Christian was voted the Tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler for his championship at 133 pounds. Indiana Tech's Jonathan Kervin, ranked second in the nation at 165 pounds, was voted the WHAC Wrestler of the Year. Collin Sullivan of Lourdes was named the conference Newcomer of the Year. Marian's Steven Bradley was selected by his peers as the WHAC Coach of the Year and Lourdes' Dock Kelly was chosen as the Champion of Character Coach.
