2024-25 Men's Tennis All-Conference Honors Released
The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) announced its Men's Tennis Honors in conjunction with the league's tournament which is ongoing at the Westwood Tennis Center in Lima, Ohio.
University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH) junior, Lucas Perez, was voted by WHAC head coaches as the Player of the Year. The native of General Roca, Argentina was undefeated in NAIA singles play during the regular season as well as a perfect 3-0 in WHAC play. He finished the regular season with a 21-1 record, was the ITA runner-up and is ranked #9 nationally in the ITA. Perez is the fifth-consecutive UNOH player to be named Player of the Year and the ninth all-time
University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH) junior, Francisco Perez, was selected as the Newcomer of the Year. The native of Buenos Aires, Argentina was undefeated in NAIA play during the regular season and 3-0 in WHAC action. He was the ITA regional champion and is ranked #2 in ITA singles. Perez is the fourth UNOH player to be named Newcomer of the Year.
Lawrence Tech Head Coach Griffin Mertz was chosen by his peers as the WHAC Men's Tennis Coach of the Year and the Champion of Character Coach. Mertz led the Blue Devils to a 4-1 regular season record and 12-6 mark overall. He is the second LTU coach all-time to earn the honor. He was also chosen by his peers as the Champion of Character Head Coach for his commitment to the NAIA's Five Core Values of: Respect, responsibility, Sportsmanship, Servant Leadership and integrity.
In addition to All-Conference awards, the WHAC also released its All-Academic and Champions of Character honors. The All-Academic Team consists of sophomores or above in academic standing with a cumulative 3.25 GPA who have been in attendance at their school for one full year. The Champions of Character Team is comprised of one player from each school, nominated by their head coach, who best represents the five core character values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.
