Indiana Tech moves on, Madonna drops OT thriller in NAIA Men's Soccer Nationals

BAKER, Kan. - (Box Score) The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) tournament champion Indiana Tech Warriors kept its season alive on Saturday afternoon in the second round of the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship. Indiana Tech, making its seventh-straight and 10th overall appearance in the NAIA National Championship, pulled off the upset of the No. 14 Wildcats, earning a 1-0 victory to punch its ticket to the next round. The Warriors scored the game-winner in the 56th minute when Mark Mc Daid found the back of the net unassisted. Things got a bit tougher for Indiana Tech when a red card in the 63rd minute caused them to play the rest of the game a man down. Despite this, Indiana Tech's defense held strong and led them to the 1-0 win. Shots were nearly identical with each team firing seven shots. Indiana Tech had just one on frame compared to two for Baker. The Warriors will head to Orange Beach, Ala. for the final site which runs from Dec. 1-8.
BECKLEY, W.Va. - (Box Score) WHAC regular season champion Madonna found itself in an offensive battle on Saturday afternoon in West Virginia. The Crusaders trailed 3-1 heading into the break but did not let that diminish their fight in the second half. In a match that totaled 28 shots, 19 of which were on frame, it took overtime for a decision to be reached. Unfortunately for Madonna, it was the hometown West Virginia Tech Golden Bears who would punch their ticket to the final site with a 4-3 victory. WHAC Offensive Player of the Year, Jordy Lopez, scored twice including the game-tying goal to force overtime in the 66th minute. Daniel Watkins added the third goal for the Crusaders. The golden goal in overtime came in the 100th minute. Madonna finishes the season with a 17-3-2 overall record.
