Atlanta, Ga. - The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced its winners for the 2007-08 Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll Monday. This award, given in NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA and Junior College/Community College, awards teams throughout the nation that carry the highest grade point averages (GPA) for the entire season based on the nominations submitted by WBCA-member head coaches. For the fifth year in a row, the Davenport women's basketball team has earned a Top-6 finish and even posted the best overall Team GPA in 2005-2006. The 2007-2008 Panthers squad finished in 6th place with an overall Team GPA of 3.578. The top five teams were: Concordia (NE) - 3.667, Westminister - 3.653, Oklahoma Christian - 3.623, Blue Mountain - 3.608 and Mount Marty - 3.603. Leading the way on the academic side were NAIA Scholar Athletes Kristin Bergsma and Sara Haverdink. The team, led by Head Coach Mark Youngs will enter the 2008-2009 season fresh off its second straight WHAC Regular Season title and its first appearance in the NAIA DII Sweet 16. The team will return three of its five starters from a year ago as they welcome in 13 new faces to the program.
