Grand Rapids, Mich. -- Jared Crandell has resigned his position as Assistant Basketball Coach at Cornerstone University to become the Varsity Boys Basketball Coach at Byron Center High School. Crandell has been involved with Cornerstone Basketball since 1992 as both a player and a coach.
Crandell excelled as a player and really changed the face of Cornerstone Basketball. He finished not only as Cornerstone's All-Time Leading Scorer with 2,772 points but also as Michigan's All-Time Collegiate scoring leader. Crandell finished his career 2nd (276) in Steals, 4th (.600) in FG percentage, and 8th (763) in Rebounds. Crandell was a 3-time All-American and was an NAIA Scholar-Athlete. He was voted WHAC Player of the Week 13 times during his career and was National Player of the Week once. Jared has been on the bench as an Asst. Coach since he finished up his eligibility as a player and was a valuable member of the staff during the National Championship season in 1999. "Jared Crandell put Cornerstone on the map as a player and has kept Cornerstone on the map as an assistant coach for the last 13 years. He's the greatest player I've ever coached and also seen play at the small college level. He has been invaluable to me as an assistant coach for his professionalism and knowledge of the game. Every player that has played for Cornerstone over the last thirteen years has benefited immensely from Jared both from a basketball perspective and as a spiritual mentor. To me personally, Jared has been a tremendous friend and an unshakeable example of what true follower of Jesus Christ looks like. He will be missed in so many ways. I've been so blessed to have coached such a gifted player and then have him coach along side of me for so long. One of my greatest fears was knowing the day would eventually come when Jared would leave our program and begin a coaching career of his own. I'm excited for Jared and this tremendous opportunity. He will have an immediate impact on the basketball program at Byron Center and will put them on the map just like he did for us at Cornerstone." |
