Edwardsville, Ill. -- Indiana Tech junior Alissa McKaig set her 2nd NAIA national record on Saturday winning the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:39.04, 5 seconds faster than the previous record set in 2005.

McKaig, a Michigan State transfer who graduated from Concordia High School in Fort Wayne, set the new NAIA record in the women's 10,000-meter run on Thursday with a time of 34:22.95.

In other events Saturday and late Friday:

  • Sophomore Jon Nidlinger placed 36th in the men'smarathon with a time of 2:49:57.
  • Freshman Camron Walter took 9th place in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:20.56.
  • Freshman Alyssa Webb was 10th in the women's 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:44.54.
  • Sophomore Kesonn Lee took 7th place in the men's 200-meter dash with a time of 22.07.
  • Senior Rod Waters placed14th in men's 400-meter hurdle semi-finals
  • The women's 4x400 meter relay placed 12th with a time of 3:56.66.
  • The men's 4x400 meter relay placed 14th with a time of 3.17.34.

Overall, the Indiana Tech women finished in 14th place with 20 points and the Indiana Tech men finished in 23rd place with 14 points.

Indiana Tech is in its first year for track and field and sent 21 student-athletes to the NAIA Outdoor Track National Championship to compete in 19 events. The event is being held at the University of Southern Illinois in Edwardsville, Ill.
