GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Aquinas College senior catcher Drew Oosterhouse and Concordia University senior hurler Justin Gauthier have been honored by the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference as the Player and Pitcher of the Week respectively for April 21-27, 2008, the final week of league honors.
Oosterhouse hit .438 (14-for-32) over a 10-game stretch that saw the Saints go 5-5. The Grandville, Michigan, native contributed five doubles, two home runs and 11 RBIs while scoring four runs and slugging .781. Oosterhouse's offensive production helped Aquinas take three of four games from second place Indiana Tech, to close the conference season for the Saints. Gauthier went 2-0 on the mound in a pair of league games for the Cardinals. His relief win over Aquinas proved to seal Concordia's spot on the WHAC tournament, as he pitched the final inning-and-one-third without allowing a run. The Muskegon, Michigan, native came back two days later to earn the win in a 6-4 victory of #25 Madonna, picking up his seventh victory of the season, a new Concordia record. NOTABLE BASEBALL PLAYER PERFORMANCES MARC SOBOTA (AQUINAS): Went 1-0 with four K's and five runs allowed in a win over Indiana Tech. WILL KENNEDY (MADONNA): Went 1-0 with five K's and no earned runs in a win over Concordia. ALEX MAYNARD (SIENA HEIGHTS): Went 1-0 with three K's and no earned runs allowed in a win over Rochester. |
