FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- After nearly 30 years of dedication to Indiana Tech, Vice President for Student Life and Athletic Director Dan Kline announced his intention to retire at the end of the current academic year.
"Dan is an institution here at Indiana Tech," said President Arthur E. Snyder. "I have enjoyed working with Dan for the past five years. He is a fine man who touched many students' lives in a positive way." Kline has held a variety of roles at Indiana Tech, including coaching the men's basketball team from 1980 to 1998 and coaching the women's basketball team from 2004 to 2005. He has earned multiple Coach of the Year awards as well as special athletic awards over the span of his career. He was inducted to the Indiana Tech Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006. "The success I have enjoyed at Indiana Tech has been due to the students and my co-workers," Kline said. "It's a great institution with great people". During Kline's tenure, Indiana Tech's enrollment and the scope of its athletic programs have grown significantly. Recent years have seen the addition of women's volleyball and men's and women's tennis, golf, cross country, and track and field. The 2009-10 academic year will bring the addition of men's and women's lacrosse. Throughout the growth, Kline has maintained a personal interest in the success of the university's student-athletes both on and off the field. Coaching at Indiana Tech was a family matter for Kline, with his son Jason following in his footsteps as coach of the men's basketball team. Jason Kline now coaches at Park University in Parkville, Mo. A desire to spend more time with his wife, Nancy, and with Jason and his family was a big factor in Dan Kline's decision to retire. "It feels right at this time in my life," Kline explained. "I want to visit and spend time with Jason and his family in Missouri, and I want to relax and enjoy the many things Nancy and I have put on hold." |
