GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Madonna University baseball teammates Kevin Zerbo and Jeff Sonnenberg, who hurled a no-hitter versus Aquinas, have been honored by the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference as the Player and Pitcher of the Week respectively for April 21, 2008.

Zerbo takes home his second player of the week honor after hitting .464 in a ten game stretch that saw the Crusaders post a 9-1 record and clinch the 2008 WHAC regular season championship. The Farmington, Michigan, native went 13-for-28 at the plate with three doubles, a home run and 14 RBIs including 10 of those in a four game stretch versus Indiana Tech. Zerbo also posted a flawless performance at first base, recording 73 putouts and an assist without an error.

Sonnenberg takes his first pitcher of the week honor after going 2-0 with a no-hitter in two appearances on the mound. The Lansing, Michigan, native did not allow a single run in his two outings, including the 4-0 no-hit blanking of Aquinas on Saturday. In that game, Sonnenberg took a perfect game into the final inning, holding onto the no-hitter with nine strikeouts, including six of the first eight batters he faced. He also lasted fine-and-two-thirds innings in his outing earlier in the week with Indiana Tech, fanning five. For the week, he struck out 14 in 12.2 innings of work with just one walk allowed.
