GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cornerstone University freshman Melanie Creager and Madonna University senior Liz Ballinger have been named the WHAC Player and Pitcher of the Week for April 7, 2008.
Creager put together a solid week at the plate for the Golden Eagles, hitting .500 (7-for-14) with five extra-base hits and 10 RBIs in a four game stretch. Creager helped the Golden Eagles to a 3-1 record with all three wins coming in conference play. Creager had three doubles and a pair of home runs while slugging 1.143 on the week. Ballinger is the WHAC Pitcher of the Week after picking up three conference wins in the circle for the Crusaders. Ballinger went the distance in all three games she pitched, fanning six batters and allowing just four earned runs over 17 innings of work. NOTABLE SOFTBALL PLAYER PERFORMANCES MAUREEN MASTERS (CORNERSTONE): Went 2-0 with a 1.40 ERA and 10 strike outs in 10 innings of work. TAWNY MCSWEENEY (SIENA HEIGHTS): Went 1-1 with 8 strike outs in 13-and-one-third innings of work. JESSICA WILLIAMS (INDIANA TECH): Went 2-0 with 17 strikeouts in 19-and-one-third innings of work. |
