GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Concordia University senior Alex Hoover and Aquinas College senior Michael Giddings have been honored by the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference as the Player and Pitcher of the Week respectively for April 7, 2008. Hoover had a tremendous week for the Cardinals, helping his squad to a 4-2 weekly record, all in conference play. The Shelbyville, Michigan, native posted RBIs in five of six games while hitting .611 (1-for-18) with a pair of doubles, a home run and 12 RBIs. He also scored five Cardinal runs and slugged .889. Giddings is the WHAC Pitcher of the Week after posting a pair of shut out conference victories on the mound for the Saints. The Muskegon, Michigan, native went the distance in both outings, striking our five each time in wins over Madonna and Concordia. Giddings finished the week with a 2-0 record, with just six hits allowed over 14 innings of work and a perfect 0.00 ERA. NOTABLE BASEBALL PLAYER PERFORMANCES CORY BERGFELD (SIENA HEIGHTS): Went 0-2 with three strike outs in 13 innings of work. DAN COLLAR (INDIANA TECH): Went 1-0 with five K's in a 5-1 win over Siena Heights. JUSTIN GAUTHIER (CONCORDIA): Went 1-0 with three strike outs in a 9-2 win over Aquinas. CARL MCDEVITT (MADONNA): Went 3-0 in four relief appearances, fanning three with a 1.35 ERA. |
