Fort Wayne, Ind. -- The Indiana Tech Warriors have won the 2008 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament Championship with a 98-84 victory over Cornerstone University in the Schaefer Center Monday night. With the win, the Warriors will head to Branson, Missouri for the NAIA National Championships as the automatic berth recipient representing the WHAC.

Cornerstone entered the tournament as the #4 seed and defeated Concordia University at home in their tournament opener and upset the regular season champions Aquinas in the semi-finals to earn their way to the championship game.  Indiana Tech finished their regular season as the #2 seed and have held strong on their home court with victories over Davenport and #3 Madonna.

The Warriors came out strong in the first half lighting up the nets on offense.  Tech shot 64% from the floor including 8 of 13 three pointers for 62% behind the arc.  As a result, the Warriors were able to build up an 18 point lead at the end of the first half.  The second half started out to look like a repeat of the first when the Warriors came out and continued to build the lead up as much as 24 points.  Cornerstone would make a small run in the last five minutes but would not get any closer than 13 points.  Cornerstone finished their season with a record of 17-16 and was led by All-WHAC First Team member Matt Kingshott with 19 points.

Warriors All-WHAC second team member Anthony Jones led Tech with 18 at the half before finishing with 23 to lead all scorers.  Jones was 7 of 9 from the floor for the night with 5 three pointers all in the first half.  Anthony Johnson scored 20 points to add to Tech’s offensive momentum.  In all, the Warriors had 5 players in double figures including Time Browning with 16 points, Brad Webster and Clyde McKinney each with 13.

After struggling during their non-conference season, the Warriors have rebounded and improved their record to 21-12 and have built momentum heading into the national tournament after winning their last 10 games including the conference championship title.

Indiana Tech earns the automatic berth to the National Championship as the WHAC tournament champions while the 14th ranked Aquinas Saints await their outcome with a likely at-large bid to continue their season. The NAIA National Championships will be played at the College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Missouri beginning on March 12, 2008.  For travel and ticket information visit the NAIA website at www.naia.org.
