Grand Rapids, Mich. -- The weekly WHAC award winners were announced today for competitions October 22-28, 2007. This week marks the final awards for men's and women's soccer, while volleyball will continue with weekly winners until November 12th.
WOMEN'S SOCCER
Aquinas College teammates Bri Hill and Kristina Gladstone are the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) women's soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for October 22-28.
Hill helped power the Saints to the 2007 WHAC tournament championship after scoring the game winner in a 2-1 semi-final win over Madonna and setting up the game-winner in a 3-0 title game win over Cornerstone. The Kalamazoo, Michigan native posted three goals and two assists in the biggest week of the season for the Saints.
Gladstone was stellar in the net for the Saints, posting a shut-out of Cornerstone in the conference tournament championship game. Gladstone posted 10 saves and allowed just one goal on the week while posting her sixth shutout of the season in the process.

MEN'S SOCCER
Davenport University mid-fielder Tony Deakin and Aquinas College goal keeper Ben Richardson have been named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Men's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for Oct. 22-28.
Deakin, a native of Oldhan, United Kingdom, scored a goal in DU's 2-1 WHAC semi-final victory over Cornerstone Saturday night. The goal helped keep the season alive for the Panthers who advanced to Tuesday's WHAC title game versus Aquians.
Richardson, a goal keeper from Traverse City, Michigan, was one of the main reasons why Davenport will face Aquinas and not top-seed Madonna in the WHAC title game. Richardon posted six saves, including several spectacular ones in the Saints' 3-1 upset of the Crusaders.

Madonna University teammates Lubovj Tihomirova, Inta Grinvalds and Jacqui Gatt are the WHAC volleyball weekly award winners for the week of October 22-28, 2007.
Tihomirova, from Riga, Latvia, posted 94 kills over a five match stretch, including 20 in a 3-1 upset of #5 ranked and defending national champion National American (SD) Friday night. Tihomirova reached double figures in kills in all five matches and was named to the Crusader Classic all-tournament team after producing 81 kills in the four tournament contests. She also posted 15 digs, two solo blocks and 11 block assists for the Crusaders.
Grinvalds, a sophomore setter from Portage, Michigan, tallied 215 assists over five matches, helping the Crusaders to a 3-2 weekly record and upset of #5 ranked National American. Grinvalds posted 25-or-more assists in all five matches, including more than 47 assists three times, and reached 50 assists versus Lee (TN) and 63 versus Walsh (OH). Grinvalds moved into sixth-place on the all-time MU setting list with 3,190 in her career less than two full seasons.
Gatt, a senior from Livonia, Michigan, posted double-digit digs in four of MU's five matches this week, including 28 in a win over Walsh (OH). Gatt posted 12 digs to help MU upset #5 ranked National American (SD) and finised the week with 83 total digs and five service aces.
