Grand Rapids, Mich. -- Aquinas (16-3-0) set the tone early as they soared to a 3-0 victory over Cornerstone in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference women's soccer tournament championship. With the win, Aquinas has earned the right to host the Region VIII Tournament on Nov. 2-3.
Led by WHAC Offensive Player-of-the-Year Bri Hill (Portage,MI/Hackett Catholic), Aquinas scored in the 9 th minute of play off a cross field assist from Hill to Teresa Buiocchi (Okemos, MI/Okemos). Aquinas maintained control of the ball in the first half limiting Cornerstone to just two shots in the first half. Entering the second half, Aquinas' 1-0 lead quickly grew as Hill chipped in the Saints second goal of the contest from an assist by All-Conference selection Jessica Greaney (Troy, MI/Mercy) in the 60th minute of play upping their lead to two goals. The Saints completed the game with a goal by senior Kami Kracht (Battle Creek, MI/Lakeview) of an assist by Hill and senior Hillary Bisnett (Dowagiac, MI/Dowagiac) in the 79th minute of play .
The Saints out shot the Golden Eagles 14- 5, including posting nine shots on goals to Cornerstones three shots on goal. |
