Dearborn, Mich. -- Tuesday night (Oct. 9) proved to be more than just another win for the University of Michigan-Dearborn volleyball program and its coach, Mike Gibson.  Michigan-Dearborn defeated conference foe Davenport University 3-1 (30-13, 28-30, 30-23, 30-23) giving Head Coach Mike Gibson his 600th career win.     Tuesday proved to be the culmination of a great 6 days for the Wolves volleyball team.  On Thursday night, the Wolves traveled to Grand Rapids to take on 20th ranked Cornerstone University.  Michigan-Dearborn defeated Cornerstone 3-0 (33-31, 34-32, 30-28).  On the next night, Michigan-Dearborn went to Livonia to take on 17th ranked Madonna University.  For the first time in 10 years, Madonna lost a home match to a conference opponent as the Wolves won 3-1 (30-28, 30-21, 12-30, 30-28).  Coach Gibson called those two wins, the biggest wins in the program's history.

Gibson has been the head coach for 25 years and has been the only volleyball coach in the school's history.  His over 600 wins puts him sixth on the NAIA's All-Time Winningest Active Volleyball Coaches list.  During his tenure, his teams have qualified for post-season playoffs in 22 out of 24 years.  There have been three NAIA All-Americans and since 1994 ten NAIA Academic All-Americans.  Continuity has helped Gibson over the years.  Assistant head coaches Louis Mitchell and Al Edwards have been with Gibson for over 15 years each.

In the early 1990s, Gibson started the Victors Volleyball Club, a junior volleyball club that runs out of the University of Michigan-Dearborn.  The club has players ranging in ages from 10-18 years old and has produced many future collegiate players.  Gibson also serves on the Michigan High School Volleyball Board of Directors and is the current volleyball chair for the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.  Gibson also is the past president National Association Intercollegiate Athletics Volleyball Coaches
Association and a Tournament Committee Member of the NAIA National Volleyball Championships.  He was recently honored by the Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association with a Special Service Award.

Michigan-Dearborn saw its seven match win streak snapped this past weekend at the hands of Wellesley College in a tournament hosted by Wellesley.  The Wolves current record is 19-13, (7-2 WHAC).
