GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Davenport University claimed their second straight WHAC men’s golf championships by firing a three-under-par-285 in the final WHAC jamboree of the season at Fellows Creek Golf Course in Canton, Michigan Saturday afternoon. The Panthers were paced Saturday by the 2007 WHAC Individual Champion, Zac Bested who fired a four-under-par-68 on his way to the tournament title and WHAC Individual Champion honors for the season.
For the season, Bested finished the seven WHAC Jamborees with an average of 74.1 (519 strokes). Davenport head coach Phil Sweeney was named WHAC Coach of the Year, following Saturday’s final event. Sweeney saw his Panthers run away with the team title while the top three individual finishers were members of his squad. Joining Bested on the All-WHAC first team were teammates Nick Boone and Kale Waaso who finished second and third respectively. Boone actually posted the lowest scoring average this season, but was one event shy of the mandatory seven needed for medalist honors. Siena Heights’ Jack Garswood, Aquinas’ Brian Hayward and Madonna’s Steve South rounded out the WHAC first-team.
