Grand Rapids, Mich. -- The WHAC weely award winners have been announced in volleyball and men's and women's soccer for the week of September 23-30, 2007.
VOLLEYBALL
Cornerstone University teammates Holly Cousins and Kayla Wilson join Siena Heights’ Melissa Hall as the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) volleyball Player, Setter and Libero of the Week respectively for September 23-30. Cousins, a sophomore ouside hitter, tallied 83 kills over a six match stretch, helping the Golden Eagles to a undefeated week. The Grand Rapids, Michigan, native also posted 81 digs and added five service aces and five block-assists on the week. Cousins helped CU to two WHAC victories and the Viterbo Oktoberfest tournament championship where she earned All-Tournament team honors. Hall was named Setter of the Week after putting up stellar numbers in an otherwise difficult week for the Saints. The sophomore recorded 229 total assists over six matches. Hall eclipsed the 20-assist mark in each match, incluing a 36, 47 and 63 assist nights. Her season high 63 came in SHU’s WHAC victory over Concordia. Hall also added 56 digs and 10 service aces to go with seven blocks over the six-match stretch. Wilson, a sophomore from Alto, Michigan, posted 69 total digs, helping Cornerstone to a 6-0 record. Wilson’s efforts helped Cornerstone to the undefeated week and the Viterbo Oktoberfest tournament title. Madonna University midfielder Doron Drai and defender Keith Sied have been named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Men’s Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for Sept. 24-30. Drai, a junior from Kfar-Yona, Israel, scored the game winning goal in overtime when he bent a corner kick around the near post to cap MU’s comeback win at Davenport Saturday. The goal gave Madonna a 2-1 win and leg up in the conference race.
Sied, a native of Livonia, Michigan, was also instrumental in the key conference win at Davenport. The junior made a save on a loose ball that was sitting on the goal line after the MU keeper made the initial save to keep the game 1-0 in the first half and eventually helped MU to the overtime victory.

Concordia University freshman Abby Lorion and Siena Heights University freshman Haley Mancini are the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) women’s soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for September 24-30. Lorion, a native of Plymouth, Michigan, notched a pair of goals in the Cardinals’ 3-2 WHAC win over Indiana Tech. The goals put Lorion in the Concordia record books, tying the single-season school record for goals by a freshman.
Mancini, from Berkley, Michigan, posted three saves against 13 shots on goal in a pair of games for the Saints. The keeper faces six shots and allowed one goal in a 1-1 road tie with Cornerstone, then blanked visiting Concordia with three saves in seven shots.
