With Saturday’s 1-0 victory over the visiting Concordia Cardinals, Head Women’s Soccer Coach Scott Oliver became the all time wins leader at Siena Heights. Oliver earned his 88th career victory and surpassed Aldo Zid, currently the men’s soccer coach. SHU Hall of Fame Coach, Doug Mello, still holds the school record for winning percentage at 81%. Oliver took over the Siena Heights program from his mentor and coach, Zid, in 2001. That season he went 18-3 and finished with a national ranking of 21. 2002 followed with even more success for the young Oliver. The team finished with a record of 21-2-1 and made Oliver’s first NAIA National Tournament appearance. The team finished ranked 11th in the NAIA and Oliver was honored as the WHAC Coach of the Year. Oliver’s third straight 10+ win season came in 2003 when the team was 13-6-3. After a couple of subpar seasons in 2004 (9-5-4) and 2005 (6-11-2), Oliver led the Saints back to prominence in 2006 when the team finished 15-7-1. After playing near even through the first ten games, the Saints took off in the second half and wend 9-3-1 down the stretch. They capped off their season with a pair of 1-0 victories in the regional tournament to advance to the NAIA National Tournament for the second time in Oliver’s career. The Saints finished ranked 23rd in the NAIA and Oliver was honored as the Regional Coach of the Year. Oliver, who graduated from Siena Heights in 1997, has been a part of the Saints family since 1993. “I’m proud, I’m a Siena Heights Saint. I played here and graduated from here and now I’m at the top. I’m very humbled to be included with the Siena greats.” The Saints are 6-4-1 on the season and stand in 3rd place in the WHAC with a record of 4-2-1. For his career leading the Saints, Oliver’s overall record is 88-38-12 for a winning percentage of 68%. His conference record is even better with an overall record of 42-16-7 for a winning percentage of 70%. Oliver is a major part of the program which holds the highest winning percentage at Siena Heights. They have amassed an overall program record of 295-128-27 for a winning percentage of 68.5%. |
