Grand Rapids, Mich. -- The weekly honors have been announced by the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference as seven student-athletes from three different institutions were honored for their performances on the field last week.
VOLLEYBALL
Madonna University outside hitter Lubovj Tihomirova, Concordia University setter Lindsay Trumitch and Madonn University libero Jacqui Gatt are the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) volleyball Player, Setter and Libero of the Week respectively for September 17-22.

Tihomirova, a junior from Riga, Latvia, was named Most Valuable Player at the Palm Beach Atlantic Sail Fish Classic after he;ing the Crusaders to the tournament title. For the week, she helped MU to a 5-0 record, posting 117 kills, six solo blocks and 10 block assists. Tihomirova accounted for 130 points for the Crusaders, including recording a season high 37 kills against Palm Beach Atlantic in the championship match. This is the second week in a row that Tihomirova has won the award at the conference level.

Trumitch, a junior from Riverview, Michigan, posted 235 assists over a six match stretch for the Cardinals.  While helping her team to a 4-2 record on the week and a tournament championship at the Taylor-Fort Wayne Invitational , Trumitch averaged 10.22 assists per game and also contributed 49 digs, seven aces and was named to the TUFW all-tournament team after setting a school single game record with 56 assists against Oakland City.

Gatt, a senior from Livonia, Michigan helped Madonna to a perfect 5-0 record last week.  She reached double figure digs in all five contests including a week-high 30 against Northwood (FL).  For the week, Gatt averaged 6.06 digs per game and also added three service aces and a .966 service percentage to go with her 109 total digs.

MEN'S SOCCER
Madonna University midfielder Darrel Quinn and goalie Kris Lyons have been named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Men’s Soccer Offensive  and Defensive Players of the Week  for Sept. 17-23.

Quinn, a senior, recorded the game winning goal against Siena Heights (9/22) on a penalty kick to go along with an assist against the Saints. Earlier in the week, the Fowlerville, Michigan, native had the assist on MU’s game winner at Indiana Tech (9/18). It was Quinn’s second game winning goal of the year.

Lyons made seven saves in two WHAC wins for Madonna last week. The Walled Lake, Michigan, native did not allow the opposition to score a goal, allowing only an own goal in a 3-1 win over Siena Heights (9/22). This marks the second defensive player of the week award for Lyons this season.

WOMEN'S SOCCER
Madonna University sophomore midfielder Lauren Hess and Concordia University junior goalkeeper Kelly Wurzell are the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) women’s soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for September 17-23.
Hess, a native of Livonia, Michigan, posted two goals and an assist over a two game WHAC stretch for the Crusaders.  The  midfiedler scored the game winning goal in MU’s 5-0 win at Indiana Tech on Wednesday and posted her second game winner of the week to go along with an assist in the Crusaders’ 3-2 win over visiting Siena Heights on Saturday as Madonna went 2-0 in loop action.
Sanematsu, a native of Lambertville, Michigan, allowed two goals as the Cardinals went 2-1 in three matches. The netminder kept league leader Aquinas off the board for 96 minutes while making 13 saves before allowing a goal in overtime. She also posted two saves in a 5-0 win over Tri-State and made five stops in a 2-1 win over Davenport in the Cards’ first WHAC win of the season.
