GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The first weekly award winners were announced for soccer and volleyball as seven student-athletes from three different schools were named winners by the league today.
MEN'S SOCCER
Madonna University senior midfielder T.J. Djokic has been named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week and teammate Kristofer Lyons the first ever Defensive Player of the Week for Aug. 26-Sept. 2.
Djokic, a senior from Livonia, Michigan, netted the game tying goal in a 1-1 tie at Bethel College (Ind.) then added another goal in MU’s 2-0 defeat of NCAA Division III Albion College last week. Djokic scored four points on the week, helping lead the Crusaders to a 1-1-1 record. Lyons was named garnered defensive honors in the first week of the award, added by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) prior to this season. The senior goal keeper from Walled Lake, Michigan, allowed just two goals in three games, helping Madonna to an undefeated week. Both of Lyons’ victories came against NCAA Division III schools (Albion and Olivet), he also posted a save in MU’s 1-1 tied with region VIII foe Bethel College (Ind.). For the week, Lyons faced nine shots on goal and saved eight. OFFENSIVE NOTABLES FOR WEEK OF SEPT. 4, 2007:

Madonna University junior midfielder Ashley Stoychoff has been named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week and Aquinas College goal keeper Jamie Scholma the first ever Defensive Player of the Week for Aug. 26-Sept. 2.
Stoychoff, a junior from Canton, Michigan, netted her second game winning goal of the season last week, propelling Madonna to a 1-0 conference victory over visition Cornerstone University. Stoychoff’s goal came in the 39th minute versus the Golden Eagles and helped MU start the 2007 conference season 1-0. Scholma garnered defensive honors in the first week of the award, added by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) prior to this season. The freshman goal keeper from Jenison, Michigan, posted a shutout of host Goshen College (Ind.) in Aquinas’ 3-0 road win. Scholma posted three saves in the victory. Tracy Anderson, Sr., GK, MADONNA (Posted 5 saves on the week, including 1-0 blanking of Cornerstone) Haley Mancini, Fr., GK, SIENA HEIGHTS (Posted 2 saves in 4-1 loss to Spring Arbor) VOLLEYBALL Cornerstone University sophomores Holly Cousins, Kayla Wilson and Marcie Blacquiere have been named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Volleyball Player, Libero and Setter of the Week respectively for Aug. 26-Sept. 2. Cousins, an outside hitter from Grand Rapids, Michigan, notched 40 kills and 49 digs in four matches for the Golden Eagles. Cousins posted three straight double-digit kill performances including two double-doubles (kills/digs) while contributing three service aces and 12 total blocks last week. For her efforts, Cousins was named MVP of the Cornerstone Classic after keeping her team undefeated (8-0) with wins over Calumet College of St. Joseph, Ohio Dominican, Illinios-Springfield and Malone College.
Wilson garnered Libero of the Week honors after digging 61 balls in four matches for CU. The Alto, Michigan native posted 10-or-more digs in all four matches, helping her squad to the Cornerstone Classic tournament title. Blacquiere is the Setter of the Week after tallying 143 assists in the four team wins. The Byron Center, Michigan native eclipsed the 30-assist mark in all four matches, including a week-high 41 in Cornerstone’s 3-1 win over Malone. In addition to her assists, Blacquiere posted 40 digs, 11 kills and 15 block-assists. PLAYER NOTABLES FOR WEEK OF SEPT. 4, 2007:
