Fort Wayne, Ind. -- The Golden Eagles opened the 2007 campaign against the Cougars from the University of Saint Francis (IN) and came away with a 3-0 victory today.  The win gives coach Mark Bell 100 wins at Cornerstone.   Coach Bell guided the Golden Eagles to both the regular season and tournament title in 2006.
The game was played in extreme heat and both teams made multiple substitutions in the match.  Freshman Chris Burgess netted the first goal of the season in the 54th minute of play.  Senior Brad Verburg made it 2-0 six minutes later on a Kyle Akers assist.  Joseph Anderson capped off the scoring on an unassisted goal in the 67th minute of play.
The Golden Eagles outshot Saint Francis 26-15 and Senior Brent Grube recorded the shutout in the goal.
Cornerstone will travel to Illinois to take on Trinity International tomorrow.  That game has been changed due to bad weather.  The game will be played at St. Xavier University at 1:30 p.m. CST.
