Grand Rapids, Mich. -- Siena Heights freshman hurler Dani Bailey and Madonna sophomore catcher Danielle Richardson are the innaugural WHAC softball pitcher and player of the week respectively. Bailey appeared in eight games including a no-hittter March 8th. Richardson hit .571 over a six game stretch for the Crusaders.
Bailey, a freshman from Blissfield, Michigan, saw the majority of the mound time for the Saints on the annual spring trip. She appeared in eight games, with 55-innings pitched and fanned 59 hitters.
Bailey didn't waste any time getting into the SHU record books, firing a complete game no-hitter March 8th versus Cedarville. In that game, she struck out six on her way to the win.
For the week, Bailey posted a 5-2 record while allowing just 12 earned runs.
Richardson was named Player of the Week after hitting .571 over six games for the Crusaders. The Lapeer, Michigan native is currently tied for the team lead with an 11-game hitting streak and has reached base on a hit in each of MU's games to start the year.
Last week, in Tuscon, Arizona, Richardson went 8-for-14 (.571) with two double and three runns scored in six games. She also drove in four while slugging at a .714 clip.
NOTABLE SOFTBALL PITCHING PERFORMERS
Liz Ballinger, Madonna: Was 2-0 with a 2.50 ERA, fanning 11 and allowing five earned runs. Melanie Crandall, Indiana Tech: Threw a complete game victory, striking out six with one earned run. NOTABLE SOFTBALL PLAYER PERFORMERS
Kina Williams, Siena Heights: Hit .447 in 12 games, with six RBI's, nine runs scored, three doubles and two triples. Melanie Crandall, Indiana Tech: Went 3-for-7 (.429) with two RBI's in two games.
Stefanie Polomcak, Cornerstone: Hit .542 (13-for-24) with 11 runs scored, two doubles, three triples and two home runs while driving in seven.
