Grand Rapids, MI --  In a league of balance and star power, two teams and two players sit tied for the top two pre-season honors handed out by league coaches Monday.  Jon Jonker of Cornerstone University and Jeff Jayson of Aquinas College were unanimous pre-season selections and Co-Players of the Year as voted by league coaches, while Indiana Tech and Cornerstone tied atop the pre-season coaches poll.

Jonker, a senior center from Grand Rapids, Michigan, is joined on the 10-player pre-season team by teammates Kevin Wurn (Rockford, MI) and Andy Bronkema (McBain, MI) who hope to build on last season which saw them finish one game behind league regular season champion Aquinas, but defeat the Saints in the WHAC Tournament title game and earn another trip to the NAIA National Championships.

Jayson has company in fellow Saint Pedja Lazik (Kentwood, MI) who was a All-Newcomer selection last season.  Jayson was a first team selection last season after leading Aquinas to the regular season title.  The Saint are tabbed to finish third by league coaches this season.

A pair of Indiana Tech guards were selected to the squad as Maurice Benson (Lansing, MI) and Curtis Thomas (Indianapolis, IN) represent the Warriors.  Thomas was a first-team selection following last season while Benson earned second-team honors a year ago.  The Warriors, under head coach Jeff Parrish, were a early exit in last season’s tournament, but finished third in the regular season and return much of the squad which went 10-4 in league play a year ago.

Rounding out the pre-season squad are Concordia guard Nate Ashcraft (Harrison, MI); Madonna forward Derrick Mudri (Fowlerville, MI) and Siena Heights forward Demarcus Berry (Detroit, MI).  The Crusaders are picked fourth by league coaches, followed by Siena Heights, Concordia, Davenport and UM-Dearborn.
