LIVONIA, Mich. – (COMPLETE HONORS) - Madonna University returned to the top of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) volleyball standings after a three-year absence to claim the regular season championship. The Crusaders posted a 10-1 conference record and earned the job of hosting the quarterfinals, semifinals, and championship of the conference tournament.
The league named Madonna's Evia Prieditis as both the Player and Setter of the Year. The junior led the league with 10.9 assists per set and is fifth in the nation with 1411 total assists. She also received the Setter of the Year honor in 2010. Casey Gates led Northwestern Ohio with 472 kills to earn Newcomer of the Year honors while Cornerstone's Abby Miedema was named Libero of the Year with 569 digs.
Crusader head coach Jerry Abraham earned Coach of the Year honors after becoming just the second coach in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) to reach 1,000 wins. Michigan-Dearborn head coach Mike Gibson received the Coach of Character award for best representing the five core values of the NAIA's Champions of Character initiative – Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship, and Servant Leadership.
In addition to All-Conference honors, two other honors were announced – the Champions of Character Team and All-Academic (for juniors and above in academic standing and 3.25 GPA).
