GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - (COMPLETE AWARDS) - Cornerstone captured its second consecutive Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) regular season title with only one conference loss at 9-1. The Golden Eagles posted seven five shutouts on the year, five of those against conference foes. With the title, Cornerstone received the top seed in the eight-team 2012 Conference Tournament.
The league named Aquinas forward Tyler Fischer Offensive Player of the Year due to his 23 goals and four assists for 50 points on the year. Newcomer of the Year went to Abdoullie Jallow of Marygrove, who scored nine goals and had six assists. Cornerstone's goalkeeper, Kyle Breckan, anchored the team's defense with 67 saves and only 17 goals allowed for Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Golden Eagle head coach Mark Bell earned Coach of the Year honors for his leadership in the team's title. New WHAC member Lawrence Tech's head coach Will Dyer received the Coach of Character award for best representing the five core values of the NAIA's Champions of Character initiative – Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship, and Servant Leadership.
