SYLVANIA, Ohio (RESULTS) - The Davenport men's golf team entered the final Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Jamboree with a six stroke lead over Madonna and finished with the conference crown. The team shot 13 strokes better than runners-up Indiana Tech and Northwestern Ohio for a 302 at the Sylvania Country Club. The win secured Davenport's fifth conference title in seven years.
The Panthers placed three golfers in the top four spots with Alex Watier leading the way. The sophomore carded a 73 to tie Keith Long of Northwestern Ohio for medailst honors at one-over-par. Adrian Balbas and Jordan Phillips tied for third with 74s. Jordan Marken of Concordia rounded out the top five with a 76.
Davenport finished the regular season with a team score of 1515. Northwestern Ohio used its two-over-par to leapfrog Madonna for second place in the standings at 1542. Madonna finished third with 1543. The conference crown makes Davenport host of the spring event to determine the league's automatic bid to the NAIA Men's Golf National Championships in Salem, Ore. Long claimed the overall individual medalist title and qualified for nationals in the spring.
