GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (8/28/12) - Head coach Joe Veal started his eighth year as head men's soccer coach at Aquinas as the program's winningest coach and notched his name into the record books again with career win #200 thanks to senior Casey Higgason's hat trick during a 9-1 romp of Ohio Midwestern.
After opening the season with a 0-0 tie at Bethel (Ind.), the Saints' offense exploded against Ohio Midwestern. Higgason and Gabriel Mateo opened the scoring with goals in the first half for a 2-0 lead. Higgason scored the team's next two goals for his first career hat trick and Mateo and four other Saints added to the score. Ohio Midwestern scored its lone goal in the 75th minute. The Saints (1-0-1) head to Chicago for a match up with No. 25-ranked St. Xavier (Ill.).
