Men's Soccer - Mon, Aug. 27, 2012
LIMA, Ohio - The University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH) men's soccer team made history when it won the opening game of the school's first season on August 25. The Racers posted a 3-0 shutout against in-state rival Mount Vernon Nazarene University (Ohio) at Racers Field.
Freshman Malakai Field scored UNOH's first goal in history at the 8:34 mark in the first half. The forward slipped behind the defense for an unassisted goal in front of 300-plus fans. Getting the early goal helped settle the nerves and the Racers controlled the ball much of the first half. Ryan Cotton added an insurance goal in the second half on a penalty kick and Kyle Lewis scored unassisted at the 81:18 mark for the 3-0 win. Liam Davies recorded four saves for the shutout.
