The Indiana Tech baseball won its first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference regular season championship since 2007 following a pair of victories over Lourdes University on Saturday.

The Warriors completed the four-game sweep of the Gray Wolves with 2-0 and 8-2 wins today and moved to 37-18 overall and 22-6 in the conference.

Senior Eric Zagone (Roswell, NM/Grambling) dominated in game one, throwing a complete game shutout and limiting Lourdes to just seven hits while striking out eight batters.

Juniors Eric Wald (Plano, TX/Brookhaven) and Jeff King (Brownsburg, IN/Olney Central) provided all the offense the Warriors would need in the first two innings. Wald got a two-out single in the first to drive in Thomas Barnes (Marion, IN/Marion) and King tripled in the second to bring around Collin DeDecker (Champaign, IL/Purdue).

The Warriors wasted little time in game two, taking an early 1-0 lead when Barnes crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Wald.

Meanwhile, junior Aaron Lewellyn (Danville, IL/Danville Area) cruised through the first three innings, allowing no runs with just two hits and recording four strikeouts. The Gray Wolves were finally able to break through in the fourth though, plating two unearned runs to take a 2-1 lead.

The lead was short-lived however, as Wald delivered a clutch two-out, two RBI hit in the top of the fifth inning to put Tech back on top. The Warriors added three more runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh on a Tyler Watts (New Haven, IN/Parkland) long ball for the eventual 8-2 win.

Barnes finished a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with three runs scored. Lewellyn went six strong innings giving up two unearned runs on three hits with seven strikeouts. Junior Kyle Nolen (Waterford, MI/Kellogg) threw one inning of scoreless relief.

The Warriors will be the No. 1 seed in the upcoming WHAC Tournament held at Siena Heights University on May 2-4.
