Indiana Tech's head track and field coach Doug Edgar has been selected by USA Track & Field as an Emerging Elite Coach in the area of sprints, hurdles, and relays.

In just his second year at the helm, Edgar has turned Indiana Tech's sprint program into one of the best in the nation while guiding the Warrior women's team to two Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Indoor championships, one Outdoor title, and won an NAIA national championship in the 4x100 Relay.

Edgar, a three-time WHAC Coach of the Year, has coached 29 individual and nine relay NAIA All-Americans, 130 national qualifiers, 57 WHAC champions, and multiple NAIA Scholar-Athletes during his time at Indiana Tech, including the two previous years as an assistant.

In addition to his selection, Edgar also received one of 10 grants to attend the week long USATF Emerging Elite Coaches Camp in Chula Vista, California at the USA Olympic training center. The objective of the camp is to inspire current elite high school, club and college coaches, while enhancing their education and developing them into coaches of Olympic and World Championship athletes.

"It's really an honor to be selected by USA Track & Field to attend this clinic on a scholarship," Coach Edgar said. "It will be a great experience and chance for me to improve my coaching techniques and enhance the training for all of our athletes. This honor wouldn't be possible without all the great efforts of the athletes I coached over my career and this honor is really a testament to their achievements in the sport."

Coaches were selected based on their proven ability to develop athletes in their respective event(s) to state and national levels, and their projected potential to develop future Olympic medalists.
