GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Aquinas College Athletic Department is happy to announce that Betsy and Katie Vander Meer have been named co-head coaches for the Saints Volleyball program.Athletic Director Terry Bocian comments, "The Vander Meer's have strong Aquinas ties and are well recognized figures within the West Michigan volleyball community. Their passion and knowledge for the sport will enable the Saints volleyball program to continue to excel at both the conference and national level."
Katie Vander Meer was a three-time NAIA All-American for the Saints and was the only volleyball player in Aquinas history to be named to the All-American 1st Team. Vander Meer led the Saints to a 75-30 during her three year stint with the Saints and led Aquinas to within one set of advancing to the 2010 NAIA National Championships. Vander Meer graduated with the school record in assists with 3,603 during her career. Betsy has a wealth of coaching experience that includes a three year stay as an assistant coach at Aquinas College (2008-2010). Vander Meer's involvement at the high school and club level will be a vital asset in the recruitment of future Aquinas College student-athletes.
Betsy Vander Meer states, "It's great to be back coaching at Aquinas College where student athletes can be challenged spiritually, academically, and athletically. Katie and I are excited for this opportunity to continue to move this volleyball program in a more competitive direction. During spring season, the team was very responsive and supportive as we started implementing some of our own coaching ideas. The player's positive attitudes and hard work, as well as the positive help of the whole Athletic Department has definitely helped make this a smooth transition heading towards the 2012 volleyball season. We look forward to good things ahead for Aquinas College and the volleyball program."
