CALEDONIA, Mich. - Madonna carded rounds of 309 and 312 (621) on the opening day of the 2012 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Men's Golf Tournament for a 13-stroke lead.
Playing at the Stonewater Country Club (Par 71; 6,757 yards), Indiana Tech sits in second place with a 634 and Davenport is third at 643.
Madonna placed three golfers in the top five of the pack after 36 holes. Vince Carrango fired a 78 in the first round and a 72 on the second 18 to tiek marke Beneke of Indiana Tech for first. Andy Meyers is tied with Keith Long of Northwestern Ohio for third with a 157 and Nick Sears is in a four-way tie for fifth place with Zach Feher of Davenport and Tech members Ryan Gurney and Tom Kocks, just one stroke back at 158.
Round three finishes the tournament on Tuesday with the winning team receiving the league's automatic berth to the 2012 NAIA Men's Golf National Championships in May. Click here to see Day One scores.
