Corey Alexander (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer) was the winning pitcher of game one, going the distance and allowing eight hits. Alexander also had two strikeouts and one hit batsman. The Racer run was unearned.
Josh White (Brooklyn, Mich./Columbia Central) batted 2-for-3 with a double while Kyle Benschoter (Hudson, Mich./Hudson) and Brett Howard (Sylvania, Ohio/Saint Francis de Sales) had 2-for-4 games for the Saints (22-17, 9-9), who scored solo runs in the second and third frames.
During the second, White singled, Howard singled and Dan Abbott (Plymouth, Mich./Lutheran Westland) was hit by a pitch to set up an RBI single by Corey Caldwell (Ypsilanti, Mich./Lincoln Consolidated). In the third, Benschoter reached with a single and scored on a double by White.
Northwestern Ohio (23-15, 8-8) answered for its only run in the seventh on an RBI single by Ben Smith. Ben Petrick was the losing pitcher, giving up two runs on 10 hits while finishing with four strikeouts and one hit batter. Cesar Loiz was 2-for-4 at the plate.
The nightcap was a 13-inning affair that ended with on an RBI single by UNOH's Pichi Torres as the Racers batted last. Ben Schubert had reached base with a leadoff triple before scoring the winner.
Siena Heights led twice, but was unable to hold the Racers off.
Alec Duncan (La Salle, Mich./Saint Mary Catholic) had a single in the third and scored on a single by Benschoter, putting the hosts up 1-0. Later, UNOH tied the game at 1-all on an RBI single from Kevin Cyrus.
The teams traded runs in the 10th frame. Todd Vandercook (Boca Raton, Fla./West Boca Raton) reached with a walk for SHU and scored when Cory Lehman (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic) doubled and UNOH made an error on the play. The Racers forged the game's final tie in the bottom of the inning when Smith tripled and scored on a sac fly by Dylan Brammer.
Vandercook went 2-for-4, Lehman batted 2-for-6 and Mike Lollo (Allen Park, Mich./Cabrini) doubled for the Saints' offense.
Brett Kuebler (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic) started on the hill for SHU, giving up one run and seven hits in eight innings of work. Jake Kret (Wyandotte, Mich./Roosevelt) worked four innings in relief, allowing one run on three hits, before giving way to Travis Mielcarek (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic). Mielcarek faced two hitters and suffered the loss.
For the Racers, Torres batted 3-for-6, Schubert was 2-for-6 with a double and triple and Smith went 2-for-5.
Adam Ashman was UNOH's starting pitcher, surrendering one run on four hits while compiling five strikeouts and three walks. Dylan Brammer tossed three solid innings in relief before winning pitcher Austin Park worked two frames.
The teams will meet again on Sunday for another WHAC doubleheader, which is set to begin at 1 p.m.
