KANSAS CITY - Robyn Veltkamp of
Cornerstone University has been selected as the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the NAIA announced Tuesday. Veltkamp was selected based on her performances from Jan. 25-31. The winner is chosen out of a pool of conference player of the week selections among 14 conferences and independents.
Veltkamp, a 5-8 senior guard, helped lead unranked Cornerstone to upset victories over then-ranked No. 1 Davenport (Mich.), 65-54 on Jan. 27 and then-ranked No. 16 Aquinas (Mich.), 74-59 on Jan. 30. Veltkamp poured in 20 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out seven assists versus Davenport. She followed that up with 18 points, four rebounds and seven assists against Aquinas. Veltkamp's 19-point average for the week was considerably higher than her 12.7 points per game average on the season. She ranks sixth nationally with a 5.2 assist per game average. Last week Veltkamp averaged seven assists per game.
