Robyn Veltkamp's 19-point and 7 assist average helped uranked Cornerstone University upset top-ranked Davenport University and No. 16 Aquinas College. For her contribution, Veltkamp earned the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor.
The 5-8 guard from Hudsonville, Mich. scored 20 points, had 6 rebounds, handed out 7 assists and recorded 2 steals during a 65-54 win at home against No. 1 Davenport. The win marked the first time in CU history to beat the top-ranked team in the nation. The sophomore added 18 points, 4 rebounds, 7 assists and 1 steal as the Golden Eagles upset 16th-ranked Aquinas, 74-59.
With the two victories, Cornerstone improved to 13-10 overall and 6-2 in WHAC games. CU travels to Indiana Institute of Technology on Feb. 3.
Prior to this week, Veltkamp was averaging 12 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists this season. She ranks sixth in NAIA Division II for total assists (121) and assists per game (5.2). Her twin sister was named the WHAC Player of the Week on Jan. 18.
