Melissa Veltkamp's hot hand from the three-point arc led Cornerstone University to two wins this week to earn the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor.
The sophomore averaged 19 points, seven rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.5 steals during the two victories. A native of Hudsonville, Mich., Veltkamp was 8-for-10 from behind the three-point line for a blistering 80%. In a 79-56 win against University of Michigan-Dearborn, she scored 18 points, grabbed nine rebounds, handed out six assists and had a steal and a block. During a 76-61 victory over Concordia University, she scored 20, had five rebounds, five assists and two steals.
Veltkamp ranks 31st in the country in 3-point field goals made per game and 35th in total 3-point field goals made. Cornerstone sits at 10-9 overall, 3-1 in conference play. The Golden Eagles next take the floor against Madonna University on Jan. 20.
