GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Davenport University won a school record 19th straight game today as they cruised to a 110-78 win over Siena Heights inside the Student Center. The #1 ranked Lady Panthers are now 19-1 on the year and 5-0 in the WHAC with a first place showdown with Aquinas set for Wednesday, January 20.

In a game that featured two of the top offenses in the country, Davenport jumped out to a quick lead at halftime (50-35) and used even more offense in the second half (60 points) to down the Saints 110-78.

The first 3:52 was all Davenport as they scored the game's first eight points as they did not allow Siena Heights to score a point until the 15:49 mark which came on a free-throw and did not allow a field goal until 6:39 had ticked off of the clock.

Kallie Benike began an all-around great game with the first four points in route to her double-double of 20 points and 14 rebounds. The long ball was also a factor for both teams in the first half as the two teams combined to hit 14 from behind the arc with DU getting all of theirs from eight different players.

DU shot an impressive 43% in the opening half while launching 41 shots and they held the Saints to just 30% but the lead was still 15 because of six made 3-pointers by Siena.

In the first 5:56 of the second half, DU put even more distance between them and SHU as they went on a 24-14 run to open a 25 point lead. Leading the run was Kallie Benike (Campbellsport, Wis.) and Jeannie Closson (Parchment, Mich.) as they combined to score 16 of the 24 points.

Leah Sevcik (Kewaunee, Wis.) also stepped her play off the bench as the freshman scored 12 points while hitting 5 of her 9 shots from the field including one 3-pointer.

The lead would continue to grow as the minutes clicked away as all 18 players in uniform saw at least three minutes of game action. All but three of the Lady Panthers scored in the game that saw DU hand out 25 assists while committing only 13 turnovers.

Benike's double-double of 20 points and 14 rebounds led the way for Davenport as Closson went for 19 points and 8 rebounds. Carrie Grubius (Kalamazoo, Mich.) scored nine of her 15 in the opening half and Sevick was the other Panther in double-figures with 12.

DU will now have their biggest test of the WHAC season on Wednesday, January 20 when they welcome cross-town rival Aquinas College to the Student Center for a 7:30 game.
