Ryan Campbell has been named head women's volleyball coach for Cornerstone University. "Ryan is an up and coming young coach that has a very bright future ahead of him," said Dave Grube, athletics director at Cornerstone. "He did an outstanding job for us this year as our interim head coach providing strong leadership for the team and taking the initiative to create special events that encouraged more students to come to our games." Ryan has a competitive spirit that demands excellence from his players. I believe he's a great "fit" for our program and I'm confident that he will be very successful as our next head volleyball coach." As interim head coach, Campbell's team finished the year with a 24-17 record and he was named WHAC "Champions of Character" coach. "I am excited to be a full-time member of the Cornerstone University athletic staff," said Campbell. "It is a privilege to be part of a university that puts an emphasis on Christian principles. I am thankful for this opportunity and grateful for all I have learned from Steve Burmaster and the Cornerstone staff. I look forward to developing a game atmosphere that is fun for our players, fans and the entire Grand Rapids community." In 2009, Campbell received the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) "Thirty Under 30 Award," a national honor given to 30 up-and-coming volleyball coaches. In the off-season, Campbell coaches club volleyball for Carpe Diem Volleyball Club in Grand Rapids. He has served as a camp coach for Ohio State University, the University of Hawaii, Penn State University, the University of Michigan, University of Notre Dame and Bowling Green State University. He has also coached junior varsity volleyball teams at Forest Hills Central High School. |
