Cornerstone University placed three runners in the Top 10 of the 2009 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Cross Country Championship to take home the conference title. The 8K race was held at Riverside Park in Grand Rapids.
 
Senior Zach Ripley crossed the line first for the Golden Eagles in a time of 25:52 for individual honors and the Runner of the Year title. Teammate Alex Green followed just five seconds later for second place and Stephan Larson finished in seventh (26:24) as Cornerstone won its first men's title. Billy Carl and Adam Looman rounded out the scoring placing 11th and 21st.
 
Host Aquinas College finished in second place, just two points behind Cornerstone. The Saints also placed three runners in the Top 10 as Robert Veldman was third (25:05), Dustin Heiler was sixth (26:22) and Victor Ramerize finished 10th (26:44).
 
CU head coach Nate Van Holten was voted as the WHAC Coach of the Year. With the win, Cornerstone advances to the 53rd Annual NAIA Men's Cross Country National Championships in Vancouver, Wash. Nov. 21.
