Cornerstone University made a strong push during the last half of the season, pulling to within 10 strokes before today's final Jamboree, but came up one stroke short as Madonna University won the conference title with a combined stroke total of 2,098. The par 71 Quail Ridge Golf Club in Ada, Mich. was the site for the final Jamboree and was hosted by Cornerstone.
The Crusaders claimed their first-ever men's golf conference championship behind individual medalist Brett Quitiquit's 74.85 stroke average during the seven-event season. Of the seven Jamborees, Madonna won the first and tied for first in the fifth and placed second in four others. Today's third-place finish of 317 was the lowest of the season. MU placed two golfers in the top 10. Quitquit tied for fourth with a round of 78 while Steve South tied for eighth with a 79.
Madonna now qualifies for the 59th Annual NAIA Men's Golf National Championships May 18-21 at Deere Run in Silvis, Ill.
Cornerstone won today's event with a team total of 308 (24 over par) while Davenport University claimed second place with a round of 311. CU won six events, including today's. CU golfer Marcus Brussee shot a low round of 73 for two over par to lead the day. In all, three Golden Eagles finished the day in the top 10. Ben Vanbiesbrouck tied for second with a 76 and Ryan Zwier shot a 79 for a tie of eighth place.
