The top five teams in men's cross country, including Aquinas College, remained the same in the latest National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) national rating. Cornerstone University also remained at the same spot, landing at #16 while two other WHAC schools received votes.
The Saints will start their much-anticipated season on Sept. 19 at the Calvin College (Mich.) Invitational. After finishing third at nationals in 2008, Aquinas will stay close to home, choosing to run in four events in the Grand Rapids area.
 
Behind the times of Zach Ripley and Alex Green, Cornerstone stormed into the new season with a runner-up finish at the Vanderbilt Invitational hosted by Hope College (Mich.) on Sept. 5. Ripley pulled away in the final mile for a winning time of 25:47. Green finished in fourth place with a time of 26:09.
 
Siena Heights University finished ninth at the Mel Brodt Invitatinal hostedy by Bowling Green State University (Ohio) to continue to receive votes in the poll. Jeshiah Rodriguez finished first i nthe NAIA/NCAA DII race. His time of 25:28 also placed him #13 overall.
 
Indiana Institute of Technology slipped out of the Top 25 after being ranked #24 in the preseason rating. The Warriors placed second at the Bill Sudeck Classic on the campus of Case Western Reserve University (Ohio). Derek Holst finished eighth in a time of 27:35 and Matt Kimbrell was right behind at 27:57.
