SILVIS, Ill. - The 2009 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Men's Golf National Championships will be held May 19-22 at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois. The 58th Annual Championship will be hosted by St. Ambrose University (IA) as Davenport's team will make its second straight appearance. Last season, the Panthers finished 17th in their first ever appearance at the National Championships in Indiana and after winning their third straight WHAC Championship this past fall, DU will again try and make their way onto the national golf scene. Davenport will be led by seniors Nick Boone and Adam Thomas as each have posted stellar spring seasons leading into the national tournament. Also making the trip to Silvis, IL will be sophomores Kevin Palmer, Zac Bested and Kale Waaso. Together the five teammates have combined to win 9 of the 13 tournaments they have entered starting with a perfect 7/7 in WHAC Jamborees. Boone currently leads the team in scoring average for the 2008-2009 season as the senior is averaging 73.3 per round and is followed by Palmer (74.1), Waaso (74.8), Thomas (74.9) and Bested (75.5). The Panthers have the afternoon tee time on day one starting the championship at 2:10 PM. They will then follow with morning tee times on day two as the TPC Deere Run. TPC Deere Run stretches to 7,213 yards, an intimidating length for a par-71 track. Some 70 bunkers are strategically placed throughout the course and vary in depth and shape. There are a few blind shots. There are chipping areas to confound the best players. There are gentle doglegs, requiring precision more than power. Defending national champion University of British Columbia enters the tournament by earning the A.I.I. championship and hopes to upset the currently, No. 1 ranked Oklahoma Christian University. OCU has been ranked No. 1 since the February 27th rating. This year's championship will feature 31 teams, include 20 region champions, 11 at-large bids and one host berth, and five individual qualifiers.
