Julie Nietering of Cornerstone University and Madonna University pitcher Jess Irwin were awarded the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Player and Pitcher of the Week awards.
 
A sophomore from Coopersville, Mich., Nietering hit 0.615 on eight-for 13 to help Cornerstone post a 3-2 week. The utility player scored four runs and recorded six RBIs in the five games. Cornerstone followed up a pair of losses at the hands of Aquinas College (4-7, 2-8), with a double-header victory against Concordia University (4-1, 6-1) and finished out the week with a 13-1 victory at Siena Heights University. The three wins improved Cornerstone's record to 6-17 on the year.
 
Irwin was outstanding on the mound again for #18 Madonna, recording five victories and a save while tying her own single-season mark for saves at three. The right hander fanned 49 batters, allowed seven hits and two runs while walking five in 28.1 innings for an 0.25 ERA. In just her sophomore season, the Monroe, Mich. native has a 14-5 record in the circle. The Crusaders posted twin bill victories over University of Michigan-Dearborn (8-0, 9-1) and Davenport University (8-0, 3-0) and single game victories over Concordia and Indiana Institute of Technology. MU improved to 30-6 on the year.
