KANSAS CITY, Mo. - - The NAIA National Office announced the pool assignments and pool play schedule for the 2008 NAIA National Championship on Sunday (Nov. 23) and No. 11 Madonna was placed in Pool B.
Joining the Crusaders in their pool are No. 2 Biola, Lewis and Clark State and Lubbock Christian. Madonna will play one match each day during pool play. MU opens play on Tuesday Dec. 2 at 7pm (EST) against Lewis and Clark State and continues action against Lubbock Christian on Wednesday also at 7pm (EST). The Royal Blue and Gold will wrap up play with another 7pm (EST) match against Biola. The top two teams in each pool advance to the single-elimination round starting Dec. 5. Madonna is 2-4 all-time against Biola with the two sides last meeting in 2007 in the Crusader Classic in Livonia. The Eagles swept MU 3-0 in Livonia. The Crusaders are 3-1 all-time against Lubbock Christian with MU winning the last meeting at the 2003 National Championship 3-1. MU has never tangled with Lewis and Clark State.
2008 marks Madonna's 11th overall trip to the national summit and the program's sixth straight appearance in the big dance. Last season MU went 2-1 in pool play and finished as one of the final 10 teams in the nation.
