The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) made a statement at the 53rd Annual NAIA Men's Cross Country National Championships. The WHAC placed two teams in the top five at the meet. No other conference in the NAIA placed two teams in the top 10.
The top five teams finished as the final regular-season rating predicted, Malone University (Ohio) in first, Azusa Pacific University (Calif.) in second, Aquinas College (Mich.), then Southern Oregon University in fourth and Indiana Institute of Technology in fifth. The 8K race, ran on Wayne E. Dannehl Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wis., featured a varied path with elevations from 640 feet to 700 feet.
Aquinas finished with 194 points and a total team time of 2:08:02. Christopher Leikert crossed the finish line in 25th place (25:22) and teammate Nate Poirier followed in 28th place (25:28) for team scoring purposes. Overall, Poirier finished 36th. Robert Veldman was 37th for team scoring, 48th overall (25:37), Sean McGlothlin was 44th, 58th overall (25:41), Seth Bjorle finished at #60, No. 80 overall (25:54) and Victor Rameriz crossed in 76th place for team scoring, 105th overall (26:03).
Sophomore sensation Camron Walter was the first runner to finish for Indiana Tech in a time of 24:38 for seventh place. John Wainwright and Cody White were 50th and 51st in teams scoring, 67th and 68th overall (25:45), Jordan Mitchell finished at #54, 71st overall(25:48), Derek Holst at No. 83, 113th overall (26:09), Danile Neidlinger was 119th, 116th overall (26:38) and Matt Ditzler ran 122nd, 169th overall (26:39).
Individual qualifiers from the WHAC included Mike Glinski, 64th (25:43); Jesiah Rodriquez, 72nd (25:49); and Alex Russeau, 95th (25:29) of Siena Heights University (Mich.) and Alex Green of Cornerstone University (Mich.) at No. 100 (26:00).
The national meet featured 331 total runners from 113 different schools.
